Taking the sting out of injections: Apollo develops needle-free vaccine
Imagine taking a child to the doctor for her immunisations and not having to cope with her fear of needles? Imagine being able to deliver vaccines throughout the developing world without the risk of needle-stick injuries or the life-threatening problem of needle re-use? While vaccines have changed the face of public health globally, the sticking point in any immunisation program has always been reliance on needles and risks associated with them.
Apollo has moved a major step forward in the development of needle-free immunisations with the first results of preliminary trials showing its transdermal delivery technology can deliver vaccine topically (through the skin) without the need for an injection. |

Strengthening Apollo’s global patent position
Apollo has further strengthened the global positioning of its oral delivery platform, Oradel™, with the successful filing of an international patent application (PCT application). The filing will significantly assist Apollo in discussions with a number of large international pharmaceutical companies interested in specific applications of the Oradel™ technology. |

Apollo BIO Conference Success
Apollo’s attendance at last month’s BIO convention in Boston was a stand-out success with the company meeting five of the world’s ten top pharmaceutical companies. BIO is the biggest international biotechnology conference. It has the reputation for being the once-a-year event where deals and reputations are made and, according to CEO, John Priest, Apollo’s trip to Boston was a great way to showcase the company on the international stage. |

Oral Insulin: Better Health for a Better Price
Apollo is one of a handful of companies worldwide developing a safer and more effective alternative to insulin injection. Apollo’s oral insulin is believed to be capable of mimicking the natural distribution of insulin throughout body. Oral drug delivery via the gastro-intestinal route delivers the drug almost direct to the liver – and in the case of insulin delivery, this is an advantage that allows for a more effective, efficient and safe method of treatment. |
