| Strengthening Apollo’s global patent position |
Making life easier for patients | Apollo has further strengthened the global positioning of its oral delivery platform, Oradel™, with the successful filing of an international patent application (PCT application).
The filing will significantly assist Apollo in discussions with a number of large international pharmaceutical companies interested in specific applications of the Oradel™ technology. Apollo intends to further bolster Oradel™’s global patent position over the next six months, by taking out national and regional patent applications in key markets such as the US, EU countries, Australia, China, Japan, India which will provide protection until 2026 upon grant.
Why Oradel™ is Unique – and Patentable
• novel nanostructures of a defined size
• novel three-step method of nanostructure production which is low cost and readily scalable for commercial application
• nanostructure can be loaded with a range of pharmaceutical agents, including antibody-sized proteins
• nanostructure can be coated with any one of 5 distinct targeting agents
• technology has already shown to be successful in the treatment of diabetes and inflammation in animals
The company will also file patent applications covering new variants of Oradel™’s structure, methods of manufacture and improvements for use with other drugs and treatments over the next 6 months, to take advantage of the “trade secret” period that exists prior to the publication of the PCT application.
Oradel™ offers an alternative to injection because it prevents drugs such as insulin, used to treat diabetes, and TNF blockers, used to treat arthritis and other inflammatory conditions, from being degraded in the stomach and transports the drug through the intestinal wall to where it will work. |
