 Drug Development |
With the announcement that Dr Michael Luke has been appointed as Apollo’s Head of Drug Development, the company has confirmed its push to aggressively develop its clinical programs, including the future development of Oradel™ and Intradel™ drug delivery technologies.
Dr Luke is a co-inventor of Oradel™ and Intradel™ and has been a Senior Research Scientist with Apollo for two years. CEO, John Priest said that Dr Luke’s background made him the best candidate to fill this important role. “Michael has extensive expertise in protein cell biology, formulation science and has been a manager of manufacturing operations, product development, quality assurance and product compliance within regulatory guidelines,” he said. “He knows the entire process from invention through to approval for market.”
Apollo is currently recruiting a commercially-focused five-member Drug Delivery Team at Apollo’s Sydney laboratories, to be headed by Dr Luke and which will work in parallel with Protein Development headed by Glenn Pilkington.
According to Mr Priest, this team will be focused on getting current Apollo technologies through international regulatory procedures, and in developing new technologies to keep “Apollo’s pipeline pumping”.
In recent months Apollo has ramped up its diabetes, psoriasis and arthritis drug development focus - concentrating on:
liaising with regulatory officials and producing the necessary amounts of the protein-based drug ALS-00T2 needed for clinical trials
collecting the data needed for Phase II clinical trials of topical ALS-00T2 for psoriasis to proceed preparing toxicology studies for oral ALS-00T2 for arthritis
ensuring the company is on track to enter Phase I clinical trials with oral insulin this calendar year.
Mr Priest added that Apollo is now one of Australia’s fast growing drug development and delivery companies. “With a growing international reputation as a leader in the development of oral and transdermal proteins, Apollo is now focused on gaining a similarly strong reputation for the commercialization of its three key products – as well as developing new ones for market further down the track,” he said. |
